Earlier in the year we traveled to Seattle and met with the Surface team to find out about a project that had long been rumouredaround Microsoft. After getting to know the team and details about the device our objective was to craft a beautiful experience for email and calendar on two screens.
We wanted to adapt Outlook to work flawlessly in both single and dual-screen, and to focus on a few key multi-tasking scenarios. We used data from research to inform the scenarios and worked closely with a tight-knit team to move quickly.
"Outlook, in particular, is great: you get your email list on the left side and emails on the right. Hit forward, and the original email scoots over to the left and the entire right screen becomes the compose window for your new email" - The Verge
For the first time, Office apps were placed side by side on the same device so it was essential for all product teams to work together and adhere to the Fluent Design System. As a result, Microsoft Android apps are better than ever and appear as a family on the Surface Duo.
